DIY dishwasher detergent

Utah recently passed into law a requirement that only phosphate-free dishwasher detergents can be sold in the state.  This has caused a lot of problems for those of us who don't have a water softener - even with rinse agent in every batch, the dishes come out with a white film over everything, particularly plastics and glass.

Today, I found this article on  The author tested a number of DIY detergent recipes and found one that she recommends.  I'll have to give it a try, since using Lemi-Shine in every batch is rather expensive!

  1. We aren't in Utah, but I will start using vinegar for my rinse aid. Thanks!
